The Press Office had the pleasure of collaborating with Subway Letteratura for 6 years, from 2006 to 2013.
The Subway Letteratura project in Venice involves the free distribution of short stories written by young authors under 35, in both print and digital formats. The initiative, held annually from 2006 to 2013, aims to promote reading among the citizens of Venice and Mestre by disseminating literary culture during public transportation commutes.
In the latest edition, the stories were accessible via QRCode and were distributed at vaporetto and bus stops. In 2012, the downloads totaled 140,000 in Venice’s historic center alone.
The initiative also played a significant role in discovering young talent, such as Matteo Cellini, who participated with a short story in 2012 and went on to win the Campiello Prize in 2013.
The project is an expansion of the national Subway-Letteratura initiative in the city. It was recognized as the best thematic initiative for the promotion of literature by the Ministry of Culture in 2006.
