“Snapshots from the Garden of Eden,” Dina Goldstein

The Press Office had the privilege of collaborating with the Jewish Museum of Venice for seven years, from 2018 to 2024.

The Jewish Museum of Venice hosted for the first time in Europe the photographic exhibition “Snapshots from the Garden of Eden” by Dina Goldstein on the occasion of the 19th European Day of Jewish Culture. The series, commissioned by the Jewish Museum of San Francisco and curated by Domenico Maria Papa in collaboration with Opus in Artem, was inaugurated on September 2nd with the presence of the artist.

Goldstein’s black-and-white shots juxtapose biblical myths and everyday life, creating images with a powerful narrative impact that reinterpret stories from Jewish tradition in a contemporary light. Episodes such as a man shaping a modern robot Golem or a lascivious King Solomon between two scantily clad women create a disorienting effect on the audience.

The theme of this year’s European Days of Jewish Culture is Storytelling, and in various forms,” says Michela Zanon, Director of Coopculture at the Museum, “we will tell you the story of our ghetto and the personalities who have passed through it.” Dina Goldstein’s photographs interpret and re-present ancient Jewish stories in an original way, allowing them to be told and read from different perspectives or through different eyes, fitting perfectly with the theme of storytelling.
